What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma therapy that can help you process experiences that continue to feel emotionally charged or unresolved.

Using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps your brain reprocess painful memories so they can become less distressing and have less influence over how you feel and respond today.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly tell the entire story of what happened. The goal isn’t to erase the past—it’s to help your brain recognize that the experience is over and that you are in the present now.

Your past can be part of your story without continuing to control it.

Healing can mean feeling safer in the present, trusting yourself more, responding rather than reacting, and experiencing greater connection in your relationships.

You can understand where your patterns came from—and begin choosing something different.

Trauma Therapy

When the past keeps showing up in the present.

You may know exactly what happened and how it affected you. Or you may simply know that certain situations, relationships, or emotions bring out reactions that feel bigger than the moment.

You might find yourself shutting down, becoming anxious or overwhelmed, struggling to trust, or repeating relationship patterns you don’t fully understand. Even when you know you’re safe or that things are different now, your mind and body may respond as though the past is still happening.

You may find yourself thinking:

  • Why do I keep reacting this way?

  • I thought I was over this.

  • Why do the same patterns keep showing up in my relationships?

  • I understand it logically, so why do I still feel this way?

Understanding what happened can help you change what happens next.

Trauma therapy isn’t about staying stuck in the past. It’s about understanding how past experiences may still be shaping the way you feel, respond, and connect today.

Together, we can identify patterns that once helped you cope but may no longer be serving you and work toward responding to your life from the present rather than reacting from the past.
